All Things Witchy Cute Witch

FA LA LA LA LA, LA LA—wait! Wrong season!
But it’s still holiday season—it’s the Witching Season!

‘Tis the season for spooky movies, Boo boo boo boo boo, boo boo boo BOO
Grab some popcorn and some cookies, Boo boo boo boo boo, boo boo boo BOO
Curl with a cat in a cozy blanket, Boo boo boo boo boo, boo boo boo BOO
As the vampire opens the casket, Boo boo boo boo boo, boo boo boo…BOO….”

Okay, okay, I’ll stop. But it’s that time of year again—SPOOKY MOVIE TIME! The time when we remind ourselves of life by peeking through the Veil at what might just be hiding on the other side. When we reaffirm the balance by acknowledging the Shadow side of the self—and of life.

Every year, I have a list of DVDs that I plunder out of my DVD cabinet to watch while I work. I watch them all through the month, rationing myself by interspersing them with episodes of Dark Shadows (I own the entire series and am a little over halfway through—there are 1225 episodes, 131 discs, and I’m on episode 710).

So what movies do I love this time of year? Well, I’m not into slasher flicks, but more into mood pieces. Some have a little humor in them, others are just freakshow creepy. For me this list includes:

  • Something Wicked This Way Comes
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!
  • The Birds
  • The Halloween Tree
  • Dracula (Gary Oldman version)
  • Sleepy Hollow (Johnny Depp)
  • Whatever Happened to Baby Jane
  • Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte
  • The Mummy & The Mummy Returns (Brendon Frasier)
  • The Others
  • The Shining (the miniseries)
  • Queen of the Damned
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • The Haunting
  • A Haunting in Connecticut
  • The Amityville Horror
  • Delores Claiborne
  • The Ghost & Mr. Chicken
  • Secret Window
  • The Woman in White
  • It
  • Psycho
  • Frankenstein
  • The Innocents

There are others I like, but these are the ones that I go back to time and again. So, what’s on your autumn movie-watching binge? Are there spooky stories you like to watch over and over?

I love to watch 1408, and love to watch Monster with Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci, and all movies about Serial Killers, and another that isn’t scary but I love is Limitless! I watch these also at Christmas! So funny I go to a swanky hotel’s restaurant buffet for Christmas and after I load up my plate i whip out my Serial Killer book! too funny!

Sweeney Todd for me, too. Book of Life is a new favorite, too. I love reading The Halloween Tree. Ray Bradbury was really a poet. And now the Whisper Hollow books will be part of my October tradition as well. Love how spooky they are!

For me, this time of year is when I spend more time watching Tim Burton films more than any other. The main ones I often watch are: Frankenwiennie, Sweeney Todd, and Beetlejuice. However, I also like Paranorman and The Book of Life now too. However, I probably spend more time watching Supernatural or watching some kind creepy anime (Psycho-pass falls in that catagory).

    Anyways, Autumn Blessings!
