There is a street nearby that I absolutely love. Really, it could be any street, there’s nothing really outstanding about it, except for the fact that it is lined with trees. Now this a common sight around here except these are all deciduous trees. And every autumn they blaze into color around the same time. And every spring, they suddenly burst forth with leaves around the same time.
We have lived in this neighborhood since September 2010, so for four years now Samwise and I have driven down that street several times a week and I have watched the trees change through the year. So yesterday, when I was commenting on how much I like that street, Samwise suggested an idea and it seemed like a cool project. We’ll see if I can manage it — or rather manage to remember to do it — but I want to give it a try.
Every week, every Sunday, we will drive over there and I will take a picture from the same place. And I will post that picture on my blog. For a year, I will chronicle the change of seasons through these pictures. Maybe I’ll get bored partway through and stop, or maybe in a year I’ll have 52 pictures of the street from the same position. I guess we’ll find out!
Week 48: Only four more weeks on this project! And it’s been an interesting run. I’ve learned a lot and when I’m done, I’ll write a blog post about what it’s taught me. We had another sweep through of heat–it’s getting incredibly wearying. My garden is just about toast. But, cooling down again. If you’ll notice, if you look carefully on the picture–a few of the trees are already changing color. I’ve been seeing it the past week or two. Lack of rain here is going to make for a colorful autumn, but I’m pretty sad. As I said, our garden is just about toasted. The lawn is parched. I’m so ready for autumn.
I love trees too. We live out on 6 acres which were covered by blackberry bushes when we first got here. My husband has patiently cleared some of the area and planted over 400 trees over the years. We love them all and enjoy watching them change throughout the seasons. We were neophytes when first picking trees to plant so quite a few have surprised us – like the fast growing poplars. We’d see them along roads but had no idea they got so tall. They are huge and gorgeous. Many trees we got, like yellow blossomed chain trees, because we saw them in other yards and fell in love with them. We have no favorites – they are all lovely and we enjoy them tremendously.
