August 30th Tree

So this happened a year ago:

There is a street nearby that I absolutely love. Really, it could be any street, there’s nothing really outstanding about it, except for the fact that it is lined with trees. Now this a common sight around here except these are all deciduous trees. And every autumn they blaze into color around the same time. And every spring, they suddenly burst forth with leaves around the same time.

We have lived in this neighborhood since September 2010, so for four years now Samwise and I have driven down that street several times a week and I have watched the trees change through the year. So yesterday, when I was commenting on how much I like that street, Samwise suggested an idea and it seemed like a cool project. We’ll see if I can manage it — or rather manage to remember to do it — but I want to give it a try.

Every week, every Sunday, we will drive over there and I will take a picture from the same place. And I will post that picture on my blog. For a year, I will chronicle the change of seasons through these pictures. Maybe I’ll get bored partway through and stop, or maybe in a year I’ll have 52 pictures of the street from the same position. I guess we’ll find out!

Week 52: And so I come to the end of this project. Here I stand, probably the last time I deliberately take a picture from this place. I missed three weeks during the year–was sick those times, I think. And wow…so it’s done. I did it! And I love the continuity that it brought, and a form of discipline. I’m going to start another project, this one a bit closer to home, next week, I think. We had a big storm yesterday–and we are into rain and clouds and I am sleeping so much better and am so much calmer, and am so happy to see the rain. Perfect way to end this project. You’ll notice the leaves are turning early–you can see them in this weeks picture, and you can see some of them on the ground from the windstorm yesterday. There are still 150K people without power–half of those who lost it yesterday. Sadly, two people died from falling trees (and they fell, all over the region). But we have respite from the heat and drought. Which we needed.

Meanwhile…a year of trees–in a slideshow for you to see. 🙂

My family in Seattle were safe during the storm, thank God. Deepest sympathies to those who lost their lives and their families. Seattle wind storms can be terrifying as I well remember.
Very happy to hear of the rain, though, both sides of the mountains, esp for those in Eastern WA.

Such a beautiful and bittersweet way to illustrate the wheel of the year, turning season to season. Blessings Yasmine.
