Harvest Moon

So, a few things have been happening.

Tomorrow is Mabon, the Fall Equinox. For Pagans, it’s considered the second harvest—the harvest of fruits. You might think of it as a non-secular Thanksgiving, when we give gratitude to the Goddess of the Earth and the God of the Vine, and when we celebrate all that we have nurtured and grown (both literally and metaphorically) in our lives since Ostara, when we begin new projects, plant our gardens, and draw on the growing light. Because of the way schedules have lined up this year, The Crystal Cauldron (my coven) will be holding our ritual on Saturday. We’ll focus on that which we wish to harvest in from the year, that which we are ready to release, and we’ll be giving thanks for the good in our lives and invoking blessings for our loved ones.

In other things…lately, I’ve been having worse and worse reactions (and I’m prefacing this with a caveat: Please note: I’m not asking/wanting any advice/recommendations, etc.—I don’t dare try herbal concoctions, I can’t eat a lot of foods, and I’m on track with my doctor about my treatment).

That said…I’ve had so many episodes of breaking out in hives that it’s gotten scary. I’m seeing my doctor next week. We have some suspicions, and if it’s what we think it may be, once again it changes the way I eat and cook. Right now, I’m on the diet I was on for six weeks after the anaphylactic reactions a few years ago. And I’m back on a rotation diet. Which means I get (not all in one day): elk, venison, buffalo, duck, turkey, lamb. Sweet potatoes and winter squash. Cucumbers. Pears. A *little* honey and maple syrup. Rice and rice milk. My sugar-free coffee syrups. Coffee. And that’s pretty much it. I will be on this for about six weeks before once again, starting to add in one food at a time, every 4-5 days. Yeah, the elimination diet.

So, what do I eat? Depends on the day. Today I had pears and rice for breakfast. Lamb for lunch. Squash and lamb for dinner.  Tomorrow, I get a game hen, some ground buffalo, a sweet potato, a cucumber, blackberries (frozen only—not fresh). And so on. I have to watch how much rice I eat so I don’t develop a reaction to that—when you are hyper-reactive, it’s so easy to develop new sensitivities.

Other than that, I’m catching up on my work slowly. After Sam being sick (he’s better now), and me being in a Benadryl haze for several days thanks to the hives, I’m doing what I can to write, write, write without wearing myself out. I’ve pulled off Twitter (the account is admin only) and am much happier. I’m sticking mostly to my private Facebook and leaving my admin on my groups/page to Jenn and to Roberta. I need to keep drama away, stress away as much as possible, because the hives and allergy reactions get worse with stress.

So that’s what’s going on in my world. Oh yeah, Shadow Silence releases next week. You know you want it. 😉

I hope your doctor gets it figured out quickly! I’ve been meaning to tell you thank you for being so open about your allergies. I’ve been following your posts for years now and they’ve really helped me. I’ve been dealing with new food allergies that started this year and it’s crazy how it randomly strikes and gives serious reactions when it’s something that was fine the day before…

Rooting you on from the sidelines here. Yaz, where do you source your game meats? I’d love to eat more myself but right now I’d only be able to get them through bulk ordering.
