I’ve never been in a ‘real’ castle, but they fascinate me. I’ve always been fascinated with the story of “Mad King Ludwig II” and I think the castle Neuschwanstein is beautiful. I’d love to visit it one day.

Castles make me think of epic fantasy, tragic romance, and a time long gone. So, have you ever been in a castle? If so, which one? What do castles make you think of?

Like you I love castles. Have never been in one but was just watching the series on Buckingham Palace, Windsor Palace etc. and although I don’t think I would want to live like that, a fun weekend or week there would be such a fantastic experience. Castles make me think of royalty, riches, servants and vast expanses. They look so gorgeous but I wonder if people who live in them are truly as happy as we who live in the country. I must say, though, if I were offered the chance to live in one, well I would have to try it for sure!

I went to Scotland years ago for my uncles wedding. He married a wee Scottish lass đŸ™‚ .. They were married in the Balmoral Castle, it was amazing. My daughter and her new Scottish friends got to the run the halls of a castle past children had run in. It was a once in a lifetime experience I’m glad she got. We toured the Queens Castle in Edinburgh ( which is where we stayed, which also happened to be two doors down from where Sean Connery was raised!! ) We got to see the Inverness Castle ( only from outside though ) and we went to Loch Ness ( to find Nessie of course, alas the great beastie never showed ) and on the cliff beside the Loch we got to tour the Tantallon Castle.. It was so.. big, but the hallways and rooms were amazingly tight. I loved every second of it. We toured the highlands and went to Rob Roy’s grave site and saw the church he attended.. We went to visit Greyfriars Bobby because my mom LOVES dogs LOL.. We got lost in downtown Edinburgh, and ended up foot sore and very tired LOL.. I was so enchanted with everything there, I would love to go again, or maybe just say to heck with it and move there!!

I’m a castle fan (even the ABC show…lol)! I’ve roamed the European countryside and visited many – from little ‘outpost’ sized ones to the largest. I’ve been to Neuschwanstein as well – the interior was not as amazing as the exterior (was actually a bit disappointing) – as well as the Hohenschwangau castel (which is very close to Neuschwanstein but is, in my opinion, the nicer of the two), the Heidelberg castle (it’s pretty cool), Braunfels castle and several others.

Castles make me think of how life was lived during the times they were the primary focus of the region – how people dressed, the hardships and disparities between classes. I love the looks from those days but definitely prefer our modern conveniences and ways of living.
