brain candy friday

So, in one week it’s that dark dark day again that makes me hide my head under the covers. Yep, I’m talking about Black Friday! Now, I don’t *do* Black Friday in stores. Forget it. (But, peeps, I WILL be having a Black Friday sale on books so if you want to skip the crowds, hop over here to my website and see).

Anyway, my question is: Would you rather Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or ForgetaboutitAltogether?

Half and half – no way, no how am I going anywhere near a store on any sale day due to crowd issues (was in a Dillard’s once on a sale day (think it might have been President’s Day) and the shoe department had a sale, being in that area with what seemed like hordes darn had me panic-ing).

Will probably do some online shopping either or both days to see what’s what.

I do not DO Black Friday. I am disabled(walk with a cane) and I would never make it back out alive. I do shop some on Cyber Monday, but mostly try to get it all done a little at a time on other days.

Forget about it. I order stuff for my children when u have the money, plus the sales get better the closer to Christmas. I try to buy or make throughout the year though.

Forget about it! I HATE Black Friday! We spend the whole day celebrating family and being thankful for the little things, then go out and spend hours and tons of money being herded like cattle with hundreds of other people who have no manners or consideration for others! It’s ridiculous! Cyber Monday is a little better, but then you have to worry about your information being compromised. I would much rather spend my time cozy and safe with my loved ones during the holidays.

I will say forget about it. All that stuff drives me nuts. Then again, I also have all my holiday shopping done before then too. I find it less stressful and easier to budget for.

I love Black Friday here in Roseburg, Oregon because some of the stores have coffee and donut holes while our local Fred Meyer store has all of it’s socks 50% off until 11 a.m. I love to go there, get a load of socks for all ages and drop them at our local Rescue Mission. Of course, I also stock up for myself! I don’t go to the early (6 a.m.) sales, hit the stores more like around 9:30 a.m. and it’s fun people watching, listening to Christmas music and getting in the holiday mood.

That is a wonderful thing, Midge. I did that with blankets at Old Navy last year–they had them online for $5 so I bought 20 and gave them to shelters.

I wrote a poem in ode to Black Friday. I hope you enjoy!!!

    The Day after Thanksgiving

It was the day after Thanksgiving and the stores all had sales,
I had collected my flyers from out of the mail.
I woke up real early, washed my hair and my face,
Threw on my old sweats and got ready to race.
The headlights were blinding and the traffic was thick,
I cut off some lady while trying to pick
Which store I should go too first and foremost,
For the freebies were as important as butter on toast.
Sears or Filenes or maybe Target,
Coupons and flyers good only today.
Pushing my way towards the Playstation 2,
I started to worry I’d never get through.
When I reached the toy aisle I jumped up with glee,
There was one more Playstation just waiting for me.
As I reached for the box it was now out of sight,
So I ripped off my coat, I was ready to fight.
This tiny old lady had taken my toy,
Depriving my son, my dear little boy
Of the one gift he wanted on next Christmas morn,
So I tackled her quickly, but the box now was torn.
We rolled and we struggled, she put up a fight,
But I was determined, and she was real light.
I threw her with ease and then grabbed the toy,
While she searched for her glasses I danced with great joy.
My day was now over, my list was complete,
I was grumpy and broke and dead on my feet.
My mission accomplished and now I’m in bed,
I lay here and wonder if that old lady’s dead.

I prefer Cyber Monday where I get most of my shopping done. Otherwise I go crazy in the stores as I try to buy for my huge family.
