Movie Night!Every year I have my list of Ooo-Spooky movies that I post. It’s mostly the same, though I’ve added a couple this year. And finally, this year, I’ve scheduled a few movie marathon days with friends so we can watch some of them together. We’re also looking at scheduling a Rocky Horror evening for a friend who has (yes, I KNOW this is hard to believe but it’s true) never seen the RHPS! Whether we actually get to it, remains to be seen but, we’re going to try.

So every year I have my go-to movies. As the list slowly increases, I edge back into the last week of September to get all of them in. *laughs* I’ll worry about having too many when that day comes.

Now, I’m not into gratuitous gore, and I’m not into slasher flicks. And there are a few movies that kind of fit here but I keep them for my horror-SF flickfest, mostly (like The Thing, Alien, and Aliens). I also left off ones like Practical Magic and The Butcher’s Wife, which I like to see in the spring.

So grab some popcorn and let’s talk about spooky movies! First I’ll give you my MUST-SEE list, and then the general list. I love all of them but those on my must-see are particularly dear to me.

Yasmine’s Must-See Spooky Movie Fest:

My top 3 Movies:

Something Wicked This Way Comes: One of my favorite movies, ever. I love this movie and I love the book it came from. Ray Bradbury, my fave author, penned a tale of two boys, like twins, day and night, summer and winter, and a dark force who come to their town, bringing with him the “autumn people.”

My favorite quote:

Charles Halloway: I know who you are. You are the autumn people. Where do you come from? The dust. Where do you go to? The grave.

Mr. Dark: Yes. We are the hungry ones. Your torments call us like dogs in the night. And we do feed, and feed well.

Charles Halloway: To stuff yourselves on other people’s nightmares.

Mr. Dark: And butter our plain bread with delicious pain. So, you do understand a little.

The Halloween Tree: Another movie made off a Bradbury book—this is an excellent animated movie that explores the Pagan history of Halloween, all the way back to the Egyptians.

My fave quote:

“The pumpkins on the tree were not mere pumpkins, each had a face sliced into it, each face was different, every nose was a weirder nose, every mouth smiled hideously in some new way—a thousand grimaces and twice times a thousand glares of fresh cut eyes—each blink held the remnant of some holiday spirit of years gone by…”

Dracula (Gary Oldman version): What can I say? Gary Oldman as Dracula? This is a lush, exotic blend of passion and debauchery and love that lives beyond the ages.

My fave quote (which I think is one of the most romantic and passionate lines EVER):

“I have crossed oceans of time to find you.”

 Other MUST-SEE movies every autumn:

  • Sleepy Hollow (Johnny Depp)
  • The Skeleton Key
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!
  • Coraline
  • The Birds
  • The Innocents
  • The Haunting
  • Queen of the Damned
  • Whatever Happened to Baby Jane
  • The Shining (the miniseries)

Movies I generally see every year at this time:

  • Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark
    Poltergeist
  • Event Horizon
  • Room 1408
  • The House on Haunted Hill
  • Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte
  • The Mummy & The Mummy Returns (Brendon Frasier)
  • The Others
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • A Haunting in Connecticut
  • The Amityville Horror
  • Delores Claiborne
  • The Ghost & Mr. Chicken
  • Secret Window
  • The Woman in White
  • It
  • Psycho
  • We Are the Night (great German Vampire Movie)
  • Hotel Transylvania
  • Hotel Transylvania 2
  • Frankenstein
  • The old Vincent Price flicks

So, that’s my list. What’s on your list? What are your fave movies that enhance this time of year?

Did’t know there was a Shinning series, and never saw baby Jane… other wise saw the rest… And mostly saw the other and Vincent Price and universal Horror Movies are Always a MUST…

Yu need to see the original Invisible Man before the new one comes out. I absolutely loved it the first time I saw it. It blew me for a loop as I wasn’t able to figure out myself a practical way that could make soeone invisible back then. (I mean now they’d use a green screen (or a blue screen)

    Funhouse Mascare
Tales of Halloween I(available on Netflix streaming)
American Satan (but that’s more a Music movie but has Malcom McDowell in it as well as the Lead singer of Black Veil Brides and one of the guys from Asking Alexandria

Here’s some suggestions are on my Halloween pages. (included… the programming Ideas are at the end of the page)

Also my Entertainment blog https://multiscreenmotivision.wordpress.com will be publishing my ‘Summer of Netflix” posted on the 11th It has all my reviews and recommendations

I love watching It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Hotel Transylvania, Hocus Pocus, Dark Shadows (with Johnny Depp), all of the Harry Potter movies, Warm Bodies, Dracula and Van Helsing. I don’t like scary movies.

Any Tim Burton Film: yes I know, but I just love his films and I watch most of them this time of the year.

Imaginaerum (Yes that is the spelling): one of my fave bands made a movie that is just awesome this time of year, but also makes one think about what it’s like in your mind when you start losing it to dementia.

Black Butler, movies and TV series (except the original Season 2): that one is just one of my faves all year around, but I love doing a binge of it every October.

9 and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter: They may count in Tim Burton, but it was more him helping new producers.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: I just like that one.

Agree on the Mummy movies. Oh, and of course Coraline and Paranorman.

I watch all those and a lot more. Because I watch the old classics wit Bela Lugosi and have a few monster horror from the 80s that do have gore, I usually start in Sept and part of Nov.
