So this afternoon we went out to one of the local parks. I’d had a long day, (which is getting longer by the minute), so we went out around 5 PM, which can be a big mistake around here because of rush-hour traffic. Luckily it wasn’t too bad tonight, and it only took about 10 or 15 minutes to get there.

Marymoor Park has over 600 acres, including dog runs, climbing wall, tracks, softball fields, biking trails, and just an incredible spread of trees and land that I’d love to have for a front yard. We go there and sit in a couple of the areas, just chilling, enjoying the energy. In fact the pictures for my second Year of Trees photo project was taken in Marymoor.

There’s a tree there that I absolutely love. There’s a sign by it that says, “I’m an old tree. Please don’t climb on me.” And it always makes me smile. Here’s a picture of it. I’m not sure what kind of tree it is, but I have very gently walked beneath the branches there, and it’s like being inside a cave or a hut.

As we pulled into one of our usual spots, a squirrel came running over from the grass. He edged toward our car even though we were still moving, staring at me like he wanted to have words. Then he dashed away. A moment later, as I leaned out the window, he came running up again, staring up at me like WE REALLY NEED TO TALK. I think he probably wanted food, which I didn’t have for him, but boy, that little guy focused on me. I felt judged by the Squirrel of Hunger.

Coming home, as we pulled into the driveway I noticed our foxglove is beginning to really bloom. It’s my favorite flower, and a couple of years ago it suddenly appeared in our yard. Now, nobody around here has it, although it grows wild all over the place when you’re out away from the inner suburbs, but it just showed up. I consider it to be Mielikki’s flower, so I have a feeling she had a hand in bringing it over to me. And yes, I do know to be cautious with it. That’s one of the first things I learned years ago.

Our irises are also blossoming out. I don’t remember planting yellow ones, though I did plant a whole bunch of bulbs. There must have been some yellow ones in the group. Although two of them have fallen over. They shouldn’t be too heavy, so I’m thinking maybe the yard care guys knocked them over when they mowed the lawn yesterday. They tend to do things like that, which is why I have a friend work on my actual gardens, and the yard care guys only get to do yearly cleanup, moss removal on the roof, and mowing the lawn. Don’t get me wrong — they’re a nice group, but they don’t tend to understand my love of a having a slightly wild yard and they’ve pulled out flowers before, and shrubs that I wanted left alone.

So that’s it for now. Join us during June, we have them wonderful month of summer and beach related topics, and I will have the cover revealed for the second Raven book coming up shortly.

I’m focusing more on my blog and my YouTube channel than anywhere else lately, at least for me to look in on and comment. It’s much more predictable than Facebook, and I love hearing from you here and on my YouTube videos. And remember—the second part of my new Maddy novella will be in Saturday’s newsletter, so be sure to look for it (and open it) if you’ve signed up!

So tell me what’s up with you?

Although I have Hay Fever I love seeing my roses blooming. One bush was planted around 35 years ago when my daughter was in elementary school.
This year I started a new raised garden bed containing flowers that would attract hummingbirds and bees next to another raised bed that has cherry tomatoes ( they’ve been going strong for about 4 years). I want to start another raised bed but am still trying to decide what to put in it. Any suggestions?

I have been trying my own Gardening Adventure. Starting Slow, I thought I’d try a few in containers first. I’ve got Lunaria (money plant) Don’t understand how they got money plant from the name.. Its more like LUNAR as in Moon. My nana had one when I was a kid, and they look like FULL moons.

I also have some lavender growing as well and Chives (Garlic) it supposed to taste a cross between the 2.
There’s one other plant I am sadly having no luck with. I tried a 2nd time, I guess maybe I’ll have to use a bigger pot to start it. Of course the ONE flower I’m trying to go is not co-operating. Its called Convolvulus (Blue enchantment)
Here’s a picture of what they should look like (though this looks to light a color or maybe the photo is too bright)

I want to try growing some food type items. I didn’t do so well with watermelon but have a few more seeds to try again. Also Cantaloupe, Cucumbers, Pumpkins just trying to figure out WHEN I should plant the seeds so If I have any luck I can have myself a nice jack-o lantern (or a few) for Samhain. And hopefully LOTS of seeds (some to save) but most to eat! Tastes SO much better when you make your own (instead of that salt covered crap they sell in the stores)

Most gardening companies (like Burpee and so on) have charts for when you plant things in your area. Look for gardening zone charts on the web and you should find some guidance. 🙂
