Dock and ladder on summer lake with diving platform in Ontario Canada

I can’t believe it’s already June and we’re into beach month! Before you know it, we’ll be heading into the waning half of the year. My mother used to tell me when I was little that as I grew older, time would seem to go faster. And she was right. It seems like I just blinked and we went from my birthday in January to the middle of the year.

Now, I’m not a sun bunny, but I do love the flowers and the spreading leaves, and being able to sit outside after dusk and watched the stars. Here, it often rains well into June. But it’s still summer, and I always feel like time slows down just a little bit during the summer months.

I’m not much for outdoor activities, especially with my allergies and histamine intolerance, but I love watching the stars, and going for drives in the country, and sitting out by lakes or rivers, or the ocean. The water calms me. I also love getting together with friends for cookouts, and the profusion of color that spreads across the land.

So, what do you love about summer? What are your favorite activities? Have they changed much since you were a child?

My favorite thing about summer is baking in the sun. Ever since I was a kid, my dad and I would just sit in the sun and sip sweet tea all day throughout the season. Now that he’s gone, it not only calms me, but it gives me a connection to him.

I love how green everything is in summer-the trees & the grass all come to life. When I was younger & healthy I loved to go swimming (Lake Erie or pools when I lived in Florida). Also enjoyed hiking in the various MetroParks plus the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Now I have trouble walking so I mostly just look out my window or on a good day go for a drive. I don’t like it when it gets too hot & humid.

I really don’t do well in hot weather (and for me, that’s over 72-73 degrees. I can’t be in the sun much, and blinding sun gives me headaches, but I do love seeing the flowers and being able to sit outside in the evening to watch the stars!

I’m the opposite. I don’t do well in the cold (and for me that is below 70 to 72 degrees, especially the lower temps). Then again I live in a desert that gets into the 100’s during the summer, so the temperature difference can be extreme.

Oh man, with my condition, temps that high would seriously throw my body into a bad, bad, state. I used to live in eastern WA when I was a kid–super hot in the summer, icy in the winter. Even as a kid, it was too much for me.
