Autumn Candy

So, we’re into September and on our way to Autumn. I’m so thrilled. For me, September is always a pivotal month and I’m always happy to see it. The days are beginning to get shorter, the sun is getting cooler, the leaves are starting to turn, and that golden glow of the season is starting to filter through the days. Autumn’s my favorite season and I’m always relieved when we head into the season, and I long for the day that we go back to regular time–I detest Daylight Savings Time, I never feel ‘normal’ during the months it’s in place. But most of all, I just love the feeling of coziness that comes with September. The feeling that things are ‘back to normal’. This year, of course, things are different given the pandemic. But…but still…September is here and I’m so happy.

What are your favorite part of September?

I’m looking forward to cool crisp days and snuggly nights. A nice worm cup of tea and homemade cookies. Also my cats take up snuggling again. In the summer I get too hot so they don’t like to snuggle.

I also despise daylight saving time. I love when the sun sets early and the days are cool. I am in eastern NC and our heat index has been 106 the past 3 days. It has been this way for 2 months. I am dying to be able to keep my windows open and go for walks. Wear sweatshirts. I always tell my husband my power “activates” on overcast, cool, windy days.

I do enjoy Autumn, the leave changing colors, the crisp air…but then winter happens. December is great. Yule is one of my favorites Sabbats, next to Samhain. My birthday is January 5, so it’s still in that nice part of Winter…after that it kind of goes grey and dreary. One of the things I do enjoy about Winter is the coziness; everyone is all nice and bundled up. Having friends over for lovely dinners. But this Winter will be very different. And to be honest, I’m very sad about it. We always have big gatherings for Samhain and Yule. That won’t be happening this year.

Probably that we’re so close to Autumn. It’s good to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t feel right during Daylight Savings time, I’ve always detested it. Autumn has always been my time of year even as a little kid. And its not one particular thing, its the whole of the season.

I know, I’m sad too. We always host Thanksgiving, and then we have our extended friend family over for Samhain and Yule, so all of that is pretty much out this year. For the second time in almost twenty years we won’t be hosting Thanksgiving or having our Yule open house.

For me, September is a season of hope. Hope that the heat is ending, that the (self-imposed) guilt I feel about wanting to be in the house when it is sunny and bright is almost over. Pleasure over wearing cozy socks, long sleeves, sweaters and fuzzy jackets. And it’s my birthday month.

I’ve never done really well in heat. I live in Southern California, and we just had a heat wave last week and another is coming. I’m looking forward to Autumn more and more!

I like fall but I’m a spring and summer person. I don’t like winter and the cold. Even seems so dead and dreary. My body hurts and I’m not comfortable. I long for the warmer days and bright sunshine.

Like you Autumn is my favorite season. My favorite part of September is that you actually Feel the change. That suttle smell, that so nice change in the temperature and that slight coolness to the breeze. Oh I’m so excited!
