Olympic medals

So, the Olympics are on and I feel all weird about them. I usually love being able to watch the Olympics, but honestly? This year, I’m not so much. For one thing, I’m finding it hard to see the main events I’m interested in without just finding the highlights. I don’t just want to see the top three who win, I want to see MORE than that. I want to see some of the lesser apt athletes be able to compete.

And a second issue? I admit it: I know these athletes have had to wait an extra year, but I think putting on the Olympics during a still raging pandemic is stupid. Japan, I hope for your sake you’re engaging in vigilant testing. Seriously.

So instead, to calm my anxiety, I’ve been watching Say Yes to the Dress. OMG…talk about mother-zillas and bride-zillas and jealous bridesmaids and beautiful brides of all shapes and sizes who all feel like crap because society has convinced them to. I never had any interest in wearing a regular/traditional wedding dress. But the show fascinates me. Go figure! *laughing*

I totally agree. This is not the time to hold competitions. I also wondered why it was held in Japan given the very hot weather. I’d be melting there. Why not have the summer olympics in areas with more temperate climates. Those countries with hot temps could host winter olympics. I sometimes have the competitions in the background as I read, but more and more I’ve been watching BBC programs or SciFi.

Unfortunately, hosting winter games in the hotter climes might negate having enough snow, and it does cost to make snow for that many events. But summer? Yeah, more temperate climes makes sense. I still remember Atlanta–it was a beautiful opening ceremonies, but good gods, summer in Atlanta???

I’m burnt out from anything Olympics, pandemic, or politics related.
Instead, I’ve found lots of laughter in following Luke Flystalker on Facebook.
I’ve laughed so hard and I really need the laughs.
I’m also watching the entire series of “The Untouchables”. Wow, some of the actors they’ve had are like going to old home week. Saw Ed Asner in an episode last night and he wasn’t one of the “starring” actors listed in the beginning of the show.
Maybe normality will return some day. I hope it’s soon.

I agree about the not showing everything UNLESS you can get the Olympic channel (sports package only) or have Peacock! I tried the streaming on my computer, it would not let me in. So I watch NBC, NBCSP, USA (sometimes). By luck, I hit some of the Archery, some of the horse competitions, a little Karate, a little skateboarding, diving, sychronized swimming, etc. But they show each for about 30 minutes with lots of commercials. And NBCSP and NBC like to reshow, a lot of the volleyball, table tennis, finals over and over at various times. show live sometimes in morning, Show reruns through rest of the day. Very frustrating…and very little of the Paralympics later this month (sigh). Good news, sort of, Lots of book reading during all those commercials and sometimes (like now) skip and go to computer for a while.

I’m with you about the Olympics. It’s difficult to watch, especially for those of us who remember turning on the tv and watching event after event (or multiple events at once), and not very satisfying.

A good portion of Japan had wanted to postpone the Olympics again–or simply cancel them–because of the increase in COVID infections. At the end, I suspect there will be many voices–including those who insisted that the Olympics carry on–that say that these events weren’t worth the cost.

Funny about watching Say Yes to the Dress. I’ve never watched a whole episode, but have recently (the last week) seen two mini-episodes on YouTube. Omg…the things people say to each other!

Oh, Japan isn’t going to recoup the cost they spent on this. I feel bad for them re: that, but seriously, it’s not worth the risk given the rise of Delta variant.

Re: SYTTD: Even though we have the full epis on Hulu, I’ve been watching the mini-ones on YouTube, too. And honestly, the family and friend interactions are so brutal at times. I do not get it–if you love your kid you want them to love their wedding dress, don’t you? It’s NOT your wedding day, Mama! *grins* I have opinions.
