So, yesterday I finished editing the novella for Ice Magic, and will write most of A Dream of Snow novella this week, and finish it by next week. I’m planning on moving the release dates to October 15 for Ice Magic, and October 22 for A Dream of Snow, so the final two installments come out back to back next month.
And then…I start on the new urban fantasy series. And while I don’t outline, I am planning some of the elements for this series because I’m seeing them ahead of time. So I’ll be jotting down ideas and notes over the next week or so, and then I plan on taking a few days off after I send A Dream of Snow to my editor, and get everything set up for Quarter 4.
I have to say, one thing I’ve learned with the romantasy, and this surprised me, is that I do better with urban fantasy. And I’m not talking about the fact that people aren’t buying the Winter’s Spell Trilogy (well, not in any substantial numbers). I’m talking about the fact that, though I am having fun writing the story, I realize my heart seems to belong to urban fantasy and paranormal women’s fiction. I love blending the contemporary with the magical, the action with the daily life, and then sprinkle it all with some romantic glitter, so to speak.
I think the juxtaposition of the contemporary with the fantastical tickles my creativity, and I love writing strong women who can take on the trials and issues of today and be fiercely independent, yet attract ‘found family’–and with my background in actual magick and mythology, I have so much to draw on.
As I go into the fourth quarter of the year, I’m returning to the writing that makes me happiest. And I hope that you’re willing to take the journey with me.
I’m willing to read whatever you write!
Whatever you write I love. At the time I read each book it helps with the present or a past issue. It’s easy to get in a rut and not treat yourself with grace or kindness. Each story reminds me to value myself and see the magic and beauty every day. Looking forward to the new stories. Maybe Lily can make an appearance in one. Blessings.
