Happy July peeps!
How is summer going for all of you? I hope it’s been peaceful and that you have a lovely time. Of course, I’m already looking forward to September when autumn arrives—it’s always my favorite time of year. I really hope that Seattle manages to avoid smoke season this year, (we get bad wildfire smoke from Canada, California, and our own state each year). I’m also hoping for a moderate rest of summer rather than overly hot. But then again, I hope those things every year.
So I have several things to tell you about this month, and I hope they’re as exciting for you as they are for me. Feathered Web is ready for release on the 22nd, and I really hope that you enjoy seeing January and Kerris take on an adventure together!
I’m currently writing Shadow Running, and am growing very comfortable with this world. I’m looking forward to the next year as I focus on Kyann, and on Elphyra from Starlight Hollow. The two worlds are different enough to keep me interested in writing, and I’m content in my decision to return to Starlight Hollow and branch Elphyra’s world out as I focus on her heritage as a demon hunter. I find the juxtaposition between writing a main character who’s half-demon and a character who hunts demons oddly delightful. It makes it fun, like looking at the world from both sides, even though they’re different altaverses.
I do have a little present for you — and you must be subscribed to my newsletter to get it. I decided to celebrate returning to Starlight Hollow by offering you the first book in the series free, through book funnel. The offer is good until July 19, 2025, so grab your copy now if you haven’t read any of Elphyra’s and Fancypants’s adventures, and get started on that world! As always, if you have trouble downloading the good people at book funnel are very helpful. You’ll need to input the email that you get my newsletter from in order to get it.
I’m really enjoying writing Kyann’s new book. As I get further into this series, and I get to know the characters on a deeper level, I realize there are so many places I can take the Shadow Blade world. I foresee this series being as long as the Wild Hunt, or perhaps even a bit longer.
There’s a lot to unravel with Kyann’s character, as well as the rest of her Scooby Gang. With every urban fantasy world that I write, the rules and environment are different enough to make it seem like a fresh world. And since I’ve never written a half-demon main character before, it’s fascinating to see how her character evolves. I realize that I write a lot of main characters who are half one race/species (whatever you want to call it) and half another. And I enjoy helping them find their way between the worlds. Caught between moralities, caught between cultures, they must find their own unique path in this world.
And now, writing a half-demon in one world, and a demon hunter in another…that’s going to be an interesting juxtaposition.
And now I want to tell you a little bit about my newest project I will be starting on Patreon. I’m going to be writing a long term lit RPG fantasy story, two chapters a week.
My patrons on my Moon Minions level will have early access to the story. After a few weeks, I’ll upload the chapters on Amazon as a serial. And eventually, for those who don’t like to read serials, I will bundle the entire stories into books.
The first six chapters will be free to read on my Patreon for everybody. That way, you can make a decision whether you enjoy it enough to sign up for the tier, or even on Amazon.
I envision this story as an ongoing series of adventures. I can tell you I’m already having a whole lot of fun. I haven’t played/ran RPG games for over forty years without developing a deep love for them, and a vast series of adventures. I plan to begin this in mid July and I will let you know in the newsletter and on Patreon and my blog when it starts.
I hope you have a lovely rest of July, and as always, I’ll see you in the newsletter. Don’t forget to grab your copy of Starlight Hollow if you haven’t read it already!
Bright blessings, happy 4th, and take care.
