the Perseids showers

Every year, an event happens that’s free to attend and spectacular, depending on where you are located and what your vista is. The Perseids meteor shower happens during the second week of every August, with a beautiful, breath-taking display that embodies the wonder of the universe.

Each year, starting about August 8th and lasting for a week or so (check your almanac each year for exact dates), the Earth passes through the Perseids meteor showers.  Every night, from dark until early dawn, meteors race through the sky in an incredible display. The number of meteors peaks at the rate of one—two every minute.

So grab a blanket and a friend, and spend the evenings over the next couple nights watching for shooting stars. Make a midnight picnic out of it—make wishes on the falling stars. And enjoy nature’s light show.

We’re in for rain for the forecast so I can only hope the weather clears. It’s almost dark enough now.

I’ll see if I can convince my partner to take us somewhere that we can see them. I wish the city I live in would dim the lights at night. I miss being able to see the milky way and all of the stars and planets.
