So, I’m coming late to the Amazing Race—but I’m watching through the old seasons and I tend to binge watch. Things I have learned about human nature that trip people up:

  1. If you’re out for a specific goal that requires intense focus, deciding that you can slow down your pace because you’re ‘in the lead’ and getting laissez-faire about the whole endeavor is going to land you last place, out of the competition, and on the walk of shame home.
  2. Treat people with respect and you’ll receive far more help than if you act like an asshole.
  3. When you have to do something unpleasant, shrieking and kicking won’t make it go any faster. Just grit your teeth and get it over with. You can vent afterward.
  4. Life sometimes offers you scary opportunities. Don’t automatically discount them—you may enjoy them, after all, and all good things require some form of risk.
  5. You’re never too old to take a chance. Maybe you won’t be able to complete the task, but you’ll never know until you try, and you may just have some wonderful adventures along the way.
