I like the dress! Also, you and some other authors I follow have mentioned that traditional publishing is getting even tighter. Why is that? More books are being sold! Book sales, overall, were up in 2018 over 2017, so I’m not understanding why publishers are pulling back. Do you happen to know?
Most of the books being sold via traditional publishing are only through the mega-bestselling fiction authors and the nonfiction sector. Publishers have been drastically cutting their lines, bookstores are cutting back on shelf-space and a good share of books will never see their place in an actual store, and those authors getting contracts–again, unless they are a mega-seller–are being paid less and less. Genre authors are turning to indie because authors can make a living in it, and can actually get books out without fighting for a lousy contract. And we can price e-books lower, and we make far more off them than we did with the trad publishers.
