Magick post

So, today I thought I’d talk about one of my favorite tarot spreads. It’s an adaptation of one I was taught over thirty years ago, and I have no idea where it originated but I changed it to make it work for me. I’ve been using it as a primary spread for many years now. It’s an eleven card spread, that looks at what’s coming into your life, and how to approach it.

Here’s how a sample spread looks using an actual deck:

And here’s the layout (which I’ll describe below the image for my vision impaired readers):

11-Card Spread Layout

The layout is laid out in this manner:

Lowest line of cards has three cards. From left to right, they are cards 1, 2, 3.
Second line has three cards. From left to right, they are cards 4, 5, 6.
Third line has five cards. From left to right, they are cards 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.

The meanings are as follows:

  1. Where you are just coming from. The life lesson you’ve just been through.
  2. The energy the gods/the universe is bringing into your life now.
  3. The lesson you are to learn from this energy.
  4. What you are doing right: what you are doing that will help you out. If this card has a negative meaning, it often means what you’re managing to avoid doing–that if you did, would impact you in a negative way.
  5. What you’re overlooking: what you need to be aware of that you either should be doing, or if it’s a negative card, what you’re doing that will negatively impact your life. It’s a reminder to either get yourself in gear and do something, or stop doing something that’s hurting you in some way.
  6. The next step you should take on this lesson’s journey.
  7. The next big event that will happen. If it’s a court card, it can indicate an important person you will be meeting on this lesson’s journey.
  8. How to handle/approach that event.
  9. The most likely outcome from this lesson. If it’s a negative card, it can indicate a negative habit/force that you’ll be letting go of.
  10. General advice about this time period.
