August: Corn Moon
We’ve passed Lughnasadh, the first harvest of grain and corn, and are on our way to autumn. During August, we focus on tying up loose ends, on readying ourselves for the time of sacrifice. Before the harvest can be reaped, we must rid ourselves of excess clutter.
Decide what you’re ready to get rid of this year, what space you want to clear out in your life? You need to create a void before you can bring in anything new. So write up a list of things you want to let go of, that you feel ready to cast off. Unless you’re truly ready to let go, you won’t be able to.
Decorate your altar with a golden cloth, ears of corn, and a chalice of wine or grape or blackberry juice. Cast a circle and invoke your Gods and Goddesses.
Focus on each item on your list, think about what it brought to your life, and then wish it well and see it floating out of the circle, away from your life. Offer these things up to the spirit of the first Harvest.
Affirmation for the Corn Moon: I sacrifice that which I no longer need, in order to create space for new adventures and projects.
Thank you for continuing to share. When I recycle I vision how the items will help someone else. This helps me in my decision of what to keep and what to let go of.
