This is my favorite season, and that doesn’t exclude movies. I love spooky movies (well, I love a lot of movies, but ooo-spooky? Some of the best). Every year I talk about my fave movies for the season and it’s become a tradition now, so here we go. A list of some of my favorite seasonal movies for October. I’m not a fan of gore, so you won’t find many like that on the list…but yes—creepy and mood driven? Yep!
This year, though I’m adding: the old soap opera, Dark Shadows. I’m watching the entire series. I took a break after disk 71 last year, and now I’m back at it. There are 1225 episodes and I’m on episode 700. Will I finish this year? Maybe. Probably not. But hey, it’s fun, and as old as the series is, still has a wonderfully creepy mood. Jonathon Freid did a wonderful job as Barnabas Collins. And no, I didn’t watch the movie with Johnny Depp. As much as I like him as an actor…I couldn’t bring myself to watch the campy remake.

Yes, it’s a lot of movies, so I’m watching at least 1-2 a day during October.
So, are any of my movies on your list? What are your faves during the Witching Season?
Hocus Pocus is a must for me (although my family hates it…) I love It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown — it goes all the way back to childhood. I enjoy all the Halloween movies, especially #1 and the last one. Paranormal Activity terrifies me — especially #2. Gotta love all the Mummy movies. I try to see a new one every year. October is the only time I feel this urge to watch anything even remotely spooky, though.
My favorite Halloween time movie is The Lost Boys.I also like to watch tv series with paranormal themes like Wolf Creek, Moonlight, Being Human(US version), and True Blood.
I have many of the same. Practical Magic, Dracula with Gary Oldman and Luke Evans, Hocus Pocus, The Lost Boys, The Mummy movies, and The Good witch!
AMC had The Haunting on last night – the original one is the best. Haunting of Hill House is one of the best. Love Sleepy Hollow. I adore Hocus Pocus and am glad they are making a second one.
Well… As of last year, I’ve added three items to my October movie watch. One is actually an anime series called ‘Ghost Hunt’ and the others that I recently added areAbraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and The Book of Life. I don’t really watch horror movies, but I do like movies with themes of the season, or at least something spooky and/or paranormal to them.
Silver Bullet, Lon Chaney as the Wolfman, original Frankenstein, the original Drakula,Sir Anthony Hopkins as the Wolfman. I think there’s a theme here, I love werewolves.
Practical Magic was a fun movie…loved it. Also liked the Shining and Misery. The rest of them, at least some of them, I read…did not watch any of the TV series. I am not a movie rewatcher, though, I do reread certain books, usually after approx. 10 years or so.
Hocus Pocus is a must, for me!
Halloween, Halloween II (not the Rob Zombie versions!!), Hocus Pocus, Sleepy Hollow, the rest of the Halloween movies except for 3, Poltergeist, and many more. My absolute favorite scary movie is Halloween though. It was made the year I was born, but it’s still scary to me.
I can’t believe you mentioned Dark Shadows, we used to run in from school to watch it everyday! I loved it and should watch it again!
I bought The Halloween Tree movie and book last year on your recommendation. The movie was great! The book made me remember what a poet Ray Bradbury is. I read a few of his books I hadn’t read after that. What a treat. Thanks for heading me that direction. For movies this time of year I add Sweeney Todd.
I like some of the movies on your list. But forbmy fave movies for halloween time i would have to go with halloween.
