Yule tree and lights viewed through a window

I love, love, LOVE holiday lights. The twinkling little ones, the glowing larger C-6 lights, the lit candy canes and wire deer and all those wonderful sparkling decorations in the yard. We go all out each year, as you can see from my pictures of our decoration binging. This year, it feels like the sparkles are more needed than ever.

So what are your favorite memories of decorations? Did you ever go out driving around to look at light displays? My husband and I do that every year.

Each year I would drive to the neighboring town with my daughter, and then my parents when they couldn’t get out, to see 3-4 blocks of decorations. Even though I’m by myself now I still like to make the short trip. I’m hoping that the decorations will be displayed this year. We need the more than ever.

We used to (and Mom & I still do) drive around to look at Christmas lights. One year when we (Mom & I) were staying with my Aunt & Uncle, they drove us around to look at the decorations where they live (in Danville, VA). It’s a lot of fun!

This time of year is my favorite since I love the lights. It is so beautiful and I love seeing how creative people get. It is so much fun driving around and seeing what people do.

I love the colored lights…no all white or any single color. I used to decorate inside the house, but the cats kept chewing cords…so no more inside house. I how have a Christmas Arch (garden arch with colored lights on it) which I put up at the front steps. Did this year’s today. Cats can’t climb it, and I can see, sort of, from my bedroom window. Gotta scoot to middle of bed and look sideways out front window. Got my yard guy, David (who has worked for me since he was 8–now 25) to stand it up after I put it together…Long arms help! For several years I went to Atlanta to a friend’s house and we drove around to look at lots of lights. Definitely cannot do this year. some of my neighbors have already set up lights and decorations this year.

I *LOVE* holiday lights. I love them so much. My parents used to drive us around to look at the lights. I don’t really remember my mom decorating – it seemed like all of a sudden, it was done. I have not driven to look at lights in a few years now. Maybe that is something we need to do! We did put some lights up last year, maybe we should do it again this year!

I’m a child of the 70’s so my fondest memory is when my parent retired the silver tinsel tree and got an artificial green tree. When I grew up I had a live trees for years. now I have an big green artificial so my cat won’t eat the tree.
